MISSION

Black Power Books amplifies reading as an act of power and legacy in the Black community.

Black Power Books is a redistribution network; we buy and sell used books and create clothing that represents our mission.

Our goal is for the Black community to never forget that we come from a tradition of writers and readers.

We need the youth to know some of the many important Black writers, with particular emphasis on writing that aligns with Black Power.

We know that Black thought, writing, and art have long been deemed “enemy” of the state and, as a result, have been repressed and undereducated.

However, as Black People, we know that our books and writers are our homebase, containing knowledge and stories that connect us to the past.

To (re)distribute books within the community - in homes, schools, libraries, bookstores. To create fashionable clothing for people to spread our message. To build with community members wherever and however connection is possible. To educate the youth about Black Power, the importance of reading, and influential Black authors.

Black Power Books is a reading lifestyle brand that celebrates Black books, authors, and literacy through books, clothing, and reading experiences for the Black community.

Make reading a visible part of Black culture, style, identity, and empowerment.
